You will need green and orange worsted weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook. You could easily switch orange for a different color to make different crops! At the end of each row chain 1 and turn.
Begin with 25 Foundation Half Double Crochet in green yarn. If you need any help with Foundation Stitches please refer to this post where I provide a detailed tutorial.
Row 2:
HDCx2. Pull up orange on the last pull through of the second HDC.
Make a popcorn stitch. Yarn over, insert hook through the next stitch, yarn over and pull through. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat 4 times until there are 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops. Chain one with green. Pull tight on the orange working yarn. This will make the popcorn really pop out.
HDCx4 in green. Pull up orange on the last pull through of the 4th HDC. Repeat across the row until 3 stitches remain.
Make 1 popcorn and then HDCx2 in green.
Row 3
HDC across in green. Do not work into the chain on the popcorn, only the larger stitch.
Row 4
HDCx5. Then popcorn stitch and HDCx4 3 times across.
Row 5
HDC across.
Repeat rows 2-5 until you have 15 rows.
Fasten off and weave in ends!
